Wuhan Park Lane Manor: A Testament to Cultural Memory and Modernity

Rongor Kane's Design Marries Historical Symbols with Contemporary Techniques

Wuhan Park Lane Manor, a sales center designed by Rongor Kane, is a unique blend of historical symbolism and modern design techniques. Inspired by the city's rich history and culture, the design pays tribute to Wuhan's local heritage while interpreting a modern lifestyle.

Rongor Kane, a renowned designer, drew inspiration from Wuhan, known as 'the most civil city'. The city's blend of North China's generosity and South's delicateness, along with its status as the largest treaty port in inland China, served as the foundation for the design. The project, located in Hankou, Wuhan, is designed around the theme of 'City Impression'. Kane delved into the city's history and characteristics, extracting cultural symbols from its historical context and applying them to the design.

The unique property of the design lies in its central 'street' - the central model area around which all space is designed. The arched colonnade, a landmark of the Concession buildings, has been refined and simplified to become the main symbol of the interior space. The arch, separated from its original structural system and transformed from a three-dimensional linear symbol to a two-dimensional one using modern materials and techniques, has become more of a symbol - a transition from a clear entity to an old fragment memory.

The design was realized using modern materials and techniques to transform the arched colonnade into a two-dimensional symbol. The project covers an area of 552 square meters and is tagged with keywords such as 'City Impression', 'Local Culture', 'History', 'Street' and 'Laneway'. The design team included Rongor Kane, Li Ming, Xiong Yueping, Xie Xuechen, and Huang Fanghua.

In the sales center, the designer has presented a telescoped view of Wuhan City. Busy wharves and bustling streets in ancient poems are reproduced using modern skills, integrating modernity with local culture and history. The space provides various time and space experiences, uncovering the secrets hidden in time and life. The design creates a modern and elegant space atmosphere originating from the local culture and the city's old memories.

The design project was carried out in Hankou, Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. The designer conducted extensive research on the city's history and culture to refine special symbols of humanities from the historical context. The main challenge was to ensure that space experiencers could feel the project's tribute to local humanities and history as well as interpretation of the modern lifestyle. This design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
